A Tenerife For Every Valentine

Fri, February 7th, 2014 - By Andrea Montgomery

Let’s be honest, when it comes to über romantic destinations for a Valentine’s Day getaway, Tenerife can’t compete with a hand in hand stroll down the Champs Elysees; a moonlight gondola ride or a champagne supper in Monte Carlo. But what it can do, is give you warm sunshine on a February day; a barefoot, sunset walk along the sand without the need for thermals and a bottle of very good cava for under €6.

Beach Costa Adeje

Luxury Tenerife
Nothing says aphrodisiac quite like opulence. I defy anyone not to enjoy being pampered and wowed just once in a while and Tenerife can deliver the luxury goods very well. Head to the well heeled beaches of Costa Adeje with its luxury hotels like El Mirador and Jardines de Nivaria and you’ll find a side to Tenerife as far from the tacky, tired image of the Playa de Las Américas of the 1980s as Paris is from Blackpool.

El Molino Blanco, Costa Adeje

For somewhere special to enjoy that essential candlelit dinner, book in advance at the courtyard and garden setting of Molino Blanco or opt for the headland with views of La Gomera at restaurant Las Rocas.

Hotel Botanico, Puerto de la Cruz

Alternatively, try the sophisticated northern resort of Puerto de la Cruz and the fabulous Hotel Botánico where you can mix some authentic Tenerife tradition into your hearts and flowers weekend. Try one of the hotel’s pampering and rejuvenating him and her spa treatments to set the mood and then enjoy dinner at the Hotel’s Oriental restaurant followed by a bottle of chilled cava on your terrace overlooking Mount Teide and the La Orotava Valley.

Hotel Mencey, Santa Cruz

City slickers will find Santa Cruz more than meets the challenge of a romantic city break. At the retro chic Mencey Hotel even hard up Lotharios can run to a suite, its price tags offering such amazing  value for money. And with a gourmet teaching kitchen on site, you only have to wander downstairs to enjoy top notch nosh.

Quiet Tenerife
When you only have eyes for each other and want to leave the rest of the world behind, Tenerife can surprise with its tranquil, away-from-it-all corners.

Vilaflor, Tenerife

With your love to keep you warm, when clear skies turn to star studded heavens in Vilaflor, there are few places to compete with the beautiful setting of Hotel Villalba. Relax in the hotel’s spa before enjoying a superb, traditional Spanish/Canarian dinner at El Rincon de Roberto with its roaring log fire, and then retire to your terrace with a bottle of bubbly to enjoy the celestial displays.

Just a ten minute drive from the beaches and nightlife of the south coast but a million miles away from their noise and bustle, the town of San Miguel de Abona combines a rural setting, southern sunshine and a very different face of Tenerife. Check out La Bodega where tradition and luxury are impeccably paired.

Los Abrigos, Tenerife

Enjoy the taste of tapas in lovely, traditional surroundings in the former post office of La Tasquita de Nino in the village or drive down to the coast for the harbourside romance and excellent cuisine of Los Roques in Los Abrigos.
