This week the German holiday tour operator TUI announced their awards for the top 100 hotels in their 10,000 plus client hotels and Tenerife scooped seven of those awards with Puerto de la Cruz picking up an impressive three, two of those being in the TUI Hall of Fame for having won the award so many times.
With 15 hotels appearing in the list all together, the Canary Islands come in second to only Turkey which notched up 22 hotels winning the award which is based on a variety of measures including customer service, quality of food and drink, standard of facilities, rooms, entertainment and sports facilities.
The winning hotels on Tenerife are Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria in Playa Paraiso; Hotel Atlantis Park in Punta del Hidalgo, along the coast from Bajamar; Hotel Colon Guanahani and Hotel Jardines de Nivaria in Costa Adeje with the three Puerto de la Cruz prizes going to RIU Garoe, Hotel Botánico and Hotel Tigaiga.
Doubly impressive for Puerto de la Cruz is the fact that two of their three winners also appear in the TUI Hall of fame for the number of times they’ve picked up the award with the Hotel Tigaiga holding joint top spot with three others with a cabinet-busting 18 awards and Hotel Botánico hot on their heels with an impressive 12 wins.
When it comes to global customer recognition, the Canary Islands showed themselves to be head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the Spain field with the Spanish mainland picking up just four winners and the Balearics six.
Customer service is still the number one reason why people come back to a hotel and Colin Freeman, Director of the RIU Garoe in Puerto, gets an astonishing 78% of his customers returning year after year which he attributes directly to the care and professionalism of his staff.
It’s a lesson a few more hotels could learn and help to ensure that Tenerife and the Canary Islands stay at the top of the quality awards tree.
