Ten Events For Tenerife’s Ten Years Of Walk For Life

Mon, September 15th, 2014 - By Colin

You may have caught the pink parade linking Adeje with Arona as the Walk For Life has raised funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. You’ve always had just a one off chance of joining in the journey from Playa de Las Americas to Los Cristianos but 2014 is the 10th anniversary so there are ten events and everyone is invited to join in.

Walk for Life

Walk For Life started in Santa Cruz before moving to the holiday resorts of the south and unites all nationalities, ages, and even involves a few animals. Last year the cash raised was 18,000 euros but this year’s mammoth effort should smash that and spread the word even further across the south of Tenerife.

Swim for Life

Here is the full programme:
20 September – Swim For Life at Tenerife Top Training in La Caleta. 10am to 2.30pm.
26 September – Conference For Life at CDTCA – Centre for Tourism Development in Adeje with Dr Isabel Rubio discussing diagnosis and treatment, from 6pm in English.
4 October – Yoga For Life at Playa Las Vistas, Los Cristianos from 6.30pm.
12 October – Golf For Life at Golf Las Palos, Las Galletas. It’s an early 8.30am start over 18 holes at par three in stableford mode.
16 October – Dance For Life at Plaza del Pescadora, Los Cristianos. Featuring the Arona Latinfest dancers from 8pm.
14 November – Soul For Life at Plaza Roja, El Medano. All the moves to the music of QFM radio from 9pm.
21 November – Radio Marathon For Life in Adeje. Six hours of live broadcasts from Plaza de España, just by the church. Start time to be confirmed later.
28 November – Chestnuts & Wine For Life in Valle San Lorenzo, Arona. Bring your appetite from 5 to 10pm.
7 December – Cycling For Life at La Caleta gets underway from Plaza San Sebastian at 11am.
14 December – Walk For Life from CC Zentral, Playa de Las America to Playa Fañabe.

The emphasis is on fun and friendship, even though many will wear reminders of those they have lost, the overwhelming message is of hope and defiance as the proceeds help Spain’s AECC cancer charity to expand the prevention, treatment, and recovery rates.

Walk for Life

Many of the events tap into the culture, seasons, and scenery of Tenerife. The beach front events like yoga, soul, and dance are designed to draw in as many sun worshippers as possible, and everything is presented in a range of languages. Pink is the campaign colour, people of all ages will be wearing it and the musicians will be decked out in it as they provide a typically uplifting Tenerife beat.

Walk for Life

The cycle and walk events will pass through the night life centers as well as the rugged coastline of La Caleta, Playa de Las Americas, and Los Cristianos. El Medano will be flying the pink flag for the chilled out surfing zone by the south airport, and the chestnuts and wine are tasty winter treats served up in the small inland rural community of Valle San Lorenzo.

If you just turn up on the key days you will be made very welcome but if you want to get directly involved you can make advance arrangements in English or Spanish at www.carreraporlavida.com
