The pull of tradition is strong and even on holiday many families want their Sunday Roast. Well don’t worry you won’t go short in the south of Tenerife, and it doesn’t have to be instead of whale watching or checking out a theme park, it’s good to know some places (The Olive Garden & The Devon Arms) offer a roast every day.
The Olive Garden – Paseo Maritimo, Los Cristianos
Vegetarian nut loaf joins the main choices of roast beef, pork, and turkey. Known for their home cooking, the sage and onion stuffing and rich tasty gravy are highlights along with steamed vegetables including good sized sprouts and carrots. It’s a good idea to pre-book as the nearby Sunday market makes it a popular stop off. Roast are €6.95 and ready from 11am to close.
The Roast House – Edificio Fontana, Los Cristianos
Just off the old beach front this popular carvery features beef, pork, turkey, and lamb. There’s a good choice of vegetables, stuffing, crispy Yorkshire puds and lashings of gravy for you to serve yourself. Eat inside or out in the courtyard but it gets busy in the winter months so pre-booking is a good idea. Cost is €10.95 and they open from 12.30 to 4pm and 6 to 9.30pm.
Cozy Café – CC Pueblo Canario, Playa de Las Americas
The meat choice is chicken or beef (good sized portions) with fresh vegetables, homemade Yorkshires, and gravy made from meat juices. Tucked between San Eugenio church and Playa del Bobo beach, this covered terrace bar is worth searching out. Meal is €7.95 and the roasts keep coming from noon until late. Book before the Sunday and get 10% discount on your total bill.
Scotch Corner – San Eugenio, Playa de Las Americas
At the junction of the roads to Fañabe, Torviscas, and Puerto Colon, the covered terrace bar serves a good filling roast. Chicken, beef, and lamb top the bill with plenty of rich gravy. A family favourite at €7 with a kids servings for just €4.
The Irish Rose – 2nd floor CC Puerto Colon, Playa de Las Americas
Overlooking La Pinta beach there are great views of the coast as far as Callao Salvaje with the mountains of Adeje as a backdrop. Choose from beef, lamb, or turkey for just €5.95 with a second meat for another euro. The price includes a dessert choice of apple or rhubarb crumble, or trifle, and with lager one euro a pint until 6pm it’s a great deal.
The Devon Arms – Calle Juan XXIII No 31, Los Cristianos
Cut up from the old beach or down from Avenida de Suecia to find this Irish favourite. The beef, pork, lamb, ham, or chicken are accompanied all week by generous side servings of veg, cranberry sauce, and all the trimmings but you can be really spoilt when it can be the main part of the weekend special menu on Saturdays and Sundays. The basic €7 roast can be joined with one of four starters or desserts for €4, but you can’t beat all three courses for just €11. They also have reductions for a smaller kids menu.
