Five Romantic Things to do on a Tenerife Valentine’s Day

Let’s be honest, if you’ve booked a break to Tenerife for Valentine’s Day then you’re  already basking in the glow of more Cupid points than your average lover accumulates in a lifetime. But just to make sure the day notches up maximum heart flutter moments, here are a few suggestions for icing the romance cake.

A walk in the park
Picture you and your lover ambling along perfumed walkways bordered with blossoming camellias and sitting on sun-dappled benches tucked into hibiscus hedges watching dancing fountains making rainbows out of sunlight. Now picture yourself heading to Parque García Sanabria in the capital city of Santa Cruz and spending a couple of hours in this floral oasis in the city.

A moonlight stroll
If you’re going to forego the log fires and cosy chairs of the winter you left behind on your romantic getaway, make sure you make the most of your tropical temperatures and surroundings with a moonlit stroll. Go barefoot along the shore of Las Vistas beach in Los Cristianos where, when the sunbeds and lobsters of the day have packed up and left, you’ll have endless sandy shore to yourselves. Or opt instead for Playa de las Américas and the more intimate El Camisón with its palm tree backed promenade where, once sated of moonlight, you can head to the lively nightlife to raise a glass to Cupid.

Cocktails at sunset
What could possibly be more romantic than sipping Margaritas while watching the sun put on its red dress before slipping into the sea behind the island of La Gomera? There’s an  endless choice of venues in which to catch this spectacular show, from the terrace of The Watermelon in Los Cristianos to the Mirador Archipenque above Los Gigantes. My personal favourites are the Chiringuito beach bar of the Hotel Villa Cortes and the terrace of the casino restaurant in Lago Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz where the absence of la Gomera on the horizon is more than compensated for by the beauty of the lake.

Dinner for two
Nothing sets the romantic mood better than a candlelit dinner for two and there are endless choices of restaurants for Valentine’s Day on Tenerife. For something a little different try an aromatic Thai dinner on the tropical terrace of the Thai Botanico Restaurant in Playa de las Américas, or ascend the monk’s mountain in La Orotava and enjoy spectacular night views over the valley from the El Mirador restaurant in El Monasterio. And if you really want to impress, book early for the three Michelin star rated M.B. Restaurant in the Abama Golf and Spa Resort above Playa San Juan.

Make a night of it
At the Hotel Barceló Santiago in Puerto Santiago you’ll find fruit, cava and an aromatic massage in your Valentine’s Day package. At the Vincii Selección in Buenavista you’ll find a Junior Suite, champagne and strawberries and a gourmet meal to help get you in the mood. But my personal recommendation would be to head to the pine forests of Vilaflor for an away-from-it-all night in the beautiful Hotel Villalba where you can have it all – a sunset cocktail on the terrace, a moonlight walk in the forest, dinner in the Vendimia and a star lit night to remember. Just remember to pack a fleece.
