It's been a hot summer on Tenerife. No let me rephrase that, it's been a blisteringly hot summer on Tenerife. It's felt as though there's been hot weather warnings nearly every week throughout summer. It's been so hot that 30C is starting to feel 'fresh'. But now summer's over and autumn is here, temperatures normally drop to a more skin friendly 25C or so for the next couple of months...normally.
The tragic rockfall in Los Gigantes last year which resulted in the deaths of two sunbathers has caused panic in town councils all over Tenerife. After the mayor of Santiago del Teide, where Los Gigantes is located, was accused of being negligent, mayors in municipalities across the island have closed beaches which had been identified as been potentially dangerous in case the same happens to them.
The TEA entrance hall opens up with a high ceiling and polished wood block floor leading to a tight spiral stairwell climbing to the three exhibition halls. Seasons of featured artists rotate in the halls so there are nearly always new paintings and sculptures to enjoy.
Call me slow on the uptake, but it's taken seven years for me to realise that the choice and quality of restaurants in Puerto de la Cruz make it one of the best places to stay on Tenerife for lovers of good food[...]
Many travel agents describe the south of Tenerife as being warm and dry and the north as cooler and wetter. It's not inaccurate, but it is misleading. The problem with describing the weather on Tenerife like this, is that it's comparing the north with the south of Tenerife rather than with other holiday destinations.
