La Terrasse Adds A French Flavour To The Los Cristianos Mix

Sweet or savoury, that was my difficult decision ahead of a midday snack. La Terrasse had already caught my eye with special opening offers at the Apolo commercial centre in Los Cristianos and faced with ham, tomato, and grated emmental cheese with a beer, wine, or water for €5.40 I couldn’t resist. It was a very pleasant change, the cheese was tangy, memorable and a perfect match for the large folded crepe made from organic buckwheat flour and lean ham.

The long terrace just a few yards up from the busy Los Cristianos bus stops is a long established family favourite with a wide choice of bars and restaurants but there’s always room for another alternative to draw in the visitors and locals that converge in equal measure as they travel from Las Galletas, Icod de Los Vinos, Los Gigantes and many other points around Tenerife.

Valerie and Christophe are originally from Paris but moving to Ibiza to open a bistro 12 years ago widened their culinary horizons and now they are adding new influences to their menu in Tenerife. Tapas includes guacamole and nachos, Serrano ham, and Iberico chorizo and manchego cheese. There’s  hint of Italy in the sandwich selection with Panini bread, the mixes of Philadelphia and blue cheese, or smoked salmon and goat cheese sounded like good combinations.

They haven’t neglected their home roots, Croque Monsieur is a Parisian speciality sandwich topped with melted cheese and served with regular favourites or how about blue cheese, pear fruit, and walnuts?

On my visit the sweet offer on the crepes included a choice of jams including apricot, blueberry, and raspberry, that would come with coffee, tea, or fruit juice for just 3.20 euros. It was an unusually grey day when I called but this side of the Apolo catches the sun most of the day so Carte D’or ice cream is always popular, sold by the scoop in 11 flavours.

If you want to resist the more calorie filled pleasures how about a large salad with home made dressing. This part of the menu includes many vegetarian options but there are plenty more spread around the other sandwiches, crepes, and Panini. All the seating is outside and they also do a full take away menu, but with a complete range of soft drinks, beer and wine there are plenty of excuses to linger and mix and match some of the food selection.
