Anyone who reads this blog regularly or who books their holidays through the specialist Tenerife holiday website for which we write will know that having insider information on your holiday destination is worth its weight in gold when it comes to choosing the right resort for your hard earned break.
When it comes to writing travel guides, as a rule the writer has a limited amount of time in which to find out all they can about a destination, even one that they have travelled to many times before and feel familiar with. The difference with an insider, someone who lives in the destination, is that they know the island in every season and can see when things change because a new beach has been constructed or a new hotel has opened.
And that’s what makes The Real Tenerife guide so different.
Next month Jack and I will have been living on Tenerife for 10 years. But we haven’t just been lying by the pool, lazing on the beach or spending 9 to 5 in an office and the weekends shopping and cleaning. For those 10 years we’ve been travelling Tenerife from north to south and east to west; from mountains to coast and through every town and hamlet on the island researching articles for travel features and blogs. We’ve driven, taken the bus and walked every road and many of the island’s paths and trails.
While we’ve been living and working on Tenerife we have produced a driving guide to exploring the island; a whole series of walking guides and now, we have revised, updated and added fresh information and more photographs to our Going Native guide to create the shiny new The Real Tenerife – The Insider’s Guide to Tenerife.
Packed to its glossy cover with useful information about every town, village and resort on the island, The Real Tenerife gives you an insight into an island that can only come from years of interacting with the Tinerfeños and their way of life. Looking at language, culture, shopping, transport, climate, food and drink it takes you to places off the beaten track as well as to hidden corners of the most popular resorts. There are hotel, restaurant and beach recommendations; ideas for what to see and do and a guide to the most popular fiestas including when to go and what to expect when you get there.
We’ve put 10 years of hard-earned knowledge about our adopted home into The Real Tenerife so we can share it with people who want to discover a little bit more about this tropical island off the coast of Africa. We hope it helps to make your holiday the best it can be.
