Many visitors to Tenerife pass through the San Eugenio area of Costa Adeje only noticing the commercial centre but anyone who has been to Aqualand will realise there are more bars and restaurants to sample in San Eugenio Alto. Dandi is a bright new arrival on the scene that offers value for money food and drink all day before putting on a smart swagger for late night music to suit all moods.
I remember the site as a rather tired tapas bar but the transformation to a colourful, multi space venue made an immediate impression on me. There is still a Spanish feel to the snack choices like the platter of cheeses and meats for €6 to go with a range of hot dogs, rolls, and burgers but there are Italian influences in the coffees, pasta and bruscettas. The colour scheme of red, white, and green is another pointer to the Italian ownership, and the low comfortable seating areas have a continental cafe vibe about them.
Dandy is a term you don’t hear much these days but it refers to a person with a certain elegance and style, the silhouette of a flamboyantly dressed figure appears in discreet corners of the Dandi Bar. There are three main areas to relax in, the courtyard near the entrance has some strips of roofing to give it a comfy enclosed feel whilst allowing the air to flow for that outdoor feel. Greenery placed at key points also softens the lines and helps to create intimate seating areas to encourage conversation. The spacious dance floor and main bar are inside with subdued lighting and it feeds off to a chill-out lounge with spreading sofas wrapped around low tables.
The DJ was settling in for the night at 10 pm. It was Wednesday which meant revival music, I immediately recognized Blondie, Hot Chocolate, and Earth Wind & Fire. Friday is latino dance, and Saturday is commercial house music, be prepared for a late stay as the music goes onto 3 am. The quickest way to approach Dandi is from the main road junction of San Eugenio just above Puerto Colon, take the road to the right of the commercial centre, up over the TF1 motorway, there’s parking nearby. It’s just a short hop from Torviscas and Fañabe, basically head for Aqualand.
