School’s out for Easter. Families are heading to Tenerife and there’s plenty for all to do around the island. Live music and sport is aimed at all ages and the religious significance of Easter is brought to life in the most dramatic way.
THURS 2 APRIL – Arona Maximo Deporte is a celebration of sport, fitness, and health and takes place from 10 am to 3 pm at Calle Arenas Blancas by the Metropolis Centre just off the beach promenade between Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos. There will be free try out zones for tennis, basketball, football, and zumba, and stalls for health products and gyms.
FRI 3 APRIL – Romeo Santos Concert, Adeje Football Ground, 8 pm, from €40 from Tickets or at Halcon Viajes travel shop in the Los Cristianos Valdes Centre. One of the biggest Tenerife concerts of the year as the New York born singer, rapper, song writer, producer, and actor turns on the dance style. Not content with just stamping his style on music, Romeo is taking on more film work and is in Fast And Furious 7, quite a coincidence as the previous movie in the series was partially filmed on the nearby ring road linking to Icod in the north.
FRI 3 APRIL – Yes Sir – dance music through the night from 11 pm at Magma Artes & Congresos centre, Playa de Las Americas. Four top DJ’s under one very stylish and award winning roof. Flavio Rodriguez of Barcelona, DJ Fonk of Madrid, and DJ Ser, and Supreme Deejay both from Tenerife. The menu is R & B, soul, funk, and pop and the Magma is between the Costa Adeje bus station and Siam Park. Advance tickets start at €12 from the Magma box office.
FRI 3 APRIL – The Passion, Adeje, noon. The story of the crucifixion played out down the main street of Adeje town with a cast of hundreds and sets depicting the key moments in the Easter story. Powerful and moving with Roman soldiers, horses, and graphic realism that may not be suitable for the very young. The free performance lasts nearly two hours with the music and Spanish dialogue relayed to giant screens and speakers.
SAT 4 APRIL – Alexis Alonso jazz concert at the Auditorio Infanta Leonor in the centre of Los Cristianos from 8.30 pm, tickets €8 from the box office. Local performer Alexis showcases his latest CD and his piano based jazz.
SAT 4 APRIL – Pasacalle Del Mar. Arona council is staging a series of mini Carnaval parades from the church plaza down to the Plaza del Pescadora near the old beach from 6 pm. It’s a good way to get a taste of the vibrant music and costumes that you would normally only see during the Carnaval weeks.
SUN 5 APRIL – Easter Egg Hunt at Climbers from 3 pm, free and all are welcome. It’s just up hill towards Chayofa, from the fountain roundabout at the entrance to Los Cristianos.
THURS 9 APRIL – Moscow Ballet, Infanta Leonor, 8 pm. One of the worlds best ballet companies will be performing El Lago de Los Cisnes (Swan Lake). The 800 seater auditorium with large stage will provide the perfect canvas for this iconic work. Tickets are €35.
