A Closer Look at Royal Garden Villas & Spa Hotel

My opinion: The perfect place for a luxurious, feng shui getaway. Thai-styled, romantic and deluxe villas set within intimate, jasmine-scented gardens with on-site gourmet dining and sumptuous spa facilities. The sort of place you’d like to sell your home and move permanently into.

Location, location: Alongside the Costa Adeje golf course with views across the greens, at the far western end of Costa Adeje, around 4km from Playa del Duque. Not within easy walking distance of shops, bars, restaurants and beaches, the villas are not ideal for families and a car is fairly essential. A 30min drive from Tenerife South airport.

Rooms and Grounds: 28 Luxury villas lie hidden behind an exotic walled garden, each with its own entrance, private terrace and heated swimming pool. The theme throughout the hotel is Asian/Thai fusion and every space, both inside and out, has been carefully designed to be attractive to the eye and to create a relaxing environment of good ‘feng shui’. The villas are one-,two-, and three-bedroomed and are individually designed while keeping the Thai theme. Gran villas occupy corner sites giving greater floor and terrace space.

All the villas have separate bedroom, lounge and fully equipped kitchen and each comes with at least two, flat screen plasma TVs and free fast wifi, not to mention a mini bar that’s stocked beyond capacity with wines, spirits, soft drinks and snacks, including one of the best chocolate selections I’ve seen outside of a supermarket. Silks and satins provide the material for cushion covers and throws for the beds; bronze, crimson, copper and gold are the preferred décor colours and flowing drapes and candles add romance to chic style. Beds are the comatose side of comfortable, bathrooms are sumptuous and include hydro massage showers, and the terrace furniture includes luxurious rattan sun loungers and full sized Bali beds.

The lobby consists of sun terraces bedecked in Bali beds surrounding a large, free form swimming pool which you cross on a wooden bridge to get to reception. All the walkways and passage ways linking villas with spa centre and restaurant are landscaped in beautiful, scented flowers and exotic plants and festooned with knick knacks and gently tinkling fountains. Every day there’s freshly made lemonade by the pool for guests to help themselves.

Facilities: The on-site wellness centre gives guests free and unlimited access to the Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, water beds and ice fountain and there’s a full menu of beauty and massage treatments on offer at additional cost. There’s a small but well equipped gym and squash courts and of course, you’re directly across the road from the golf course.

Food: The Asian chic deign and ambience continues into the restaurant where even your handbag gets its own stool. A small menu offers traditional favourites given a gourmet makeover and the resulting dishes are exquisitely flavoured and creatively presented. We really enjoyed the lamb, and the pork with ginger. Breakfast is a leisurely affair which includes a hot and cold buffet and a diet defiant selection of fresh cakes alongside the healthier fruits and cereals.
