My opinion: A spotlessly clean, vibrant, comfortable and facilities-rich hotel which offers excellent value for money and ticks all the boxes for a great family holiday. As with all GF Hotels in my experience, the staff are exceptional.
Location, location: Set in Fañabe in Costa Adeje, a ten minute saunter from the golden expanse of Playa Fañabe and next door to the site of the twice weekly Adeje flea market, Hotel Fañabe is nicely positioned for access to shops, restaurants, the beaches of Costa Adeje and the marina of Puerto Colón. The coastal promenade offers plenty of nightlife venues en route to Playa de Las Américas.
Rooms and Grounds: Rooms are large, bright and airy and are located in three wings around a large central swimming pool and sunbathing terraces with balconies overlooking the pool. Family rooms can comfortably accommodate two adults and two children while Junior Suites add luxury to the mix with contemporary décor, oodles of floor space, a Jacuzzi and extensive balcony with elegant sun loungers. Bathrooms have lashings of hot water and lots of space but the toiletries are a bit skinny. Good air conditioning allows closed doors at night, even in a heatwave, which ensures a peaceful night’s sleep.
Facilities: The ground floor swimming pool is a day-long hive of activity from aqua aerobics to water polo with side orders of football and darts competitions. You can even have that family holiday fun captured for you to take home courtesy of the hotel’s professional photographer. Meanwhile, the rooftop pool allows adults complete privacy and tranquillity with the option of a ‘no white bits’ area. After dark, the basement is the place to head to for the nightly kiddies disco and the cabaret that follows it while those who prefer to enjoy the warm night air can settle on the very pleasant outside bar terrace with its more low key musical entertainment.
Free WiFi hasn’t made it to the bedrooms yet but the signal in the bar lounge is very good despite the number of people using it.
Food: I stayed at Hotel Fañabe Costa Sur on a bed and breakfast basis only so I can’t comment on the lunch and dinner selections but the breakfast buffet had just about everything you could reasonably eat first thing in the morning. From cereals to Continental the self service trays were kept freshly topped up and from eggs ‘any way you like them’ to fresh pancakes, the breakfast short order staff cleared queues with lightening efficiency. My favourite personal gripe is not having fresh juices and poor coffee, but that’s probably just me.
Fañabe Costa Sur is ideal for: Families, and when I was there, all-inclusive appeared to be the regimen of choice.
