My opinion: A five star family favourite offering comfortable surroundings, beautiful swimming pools, exceptional customer service and excellent value for money in the heart of Costa Adeje. All-inclusive available.
Location, location: Opposite the twice weekly Adeje market, an easy amble from the posh Del Duque shopping centre and around 15mins from Del Duque beach. Turn right out of the hotel and it’s a 25 minute coastal stroll to the harbourside restaurants of La Caleta, turn left and you’re 10 minutes from Puerto Colón.
Rooms and Grounds: From the moment you arrive at the banana plants at the entrance to the Adeje Gran Hotel you’re struck by its tropical good looks. A glass frontage stretches all the way from street level to the rooftop pool area, fronted by a jungle of palm trees and giant strelitzas. A stylish bar, oodles of lounge space, shops and reception occupy most of the ground floor space while centre stage, a dramatic fountain creates an eye catching focus, flanked by sweeping ramps and staircases taking the eye to the upper level where more leisure space and a piano bar await. Look up in the lobby and you’re looking at the floor of one of the fabulous swimming pools that occupy the garden rooftop level.
Bedrooms are large, bright and contemporary in design with a small lounge area, pale lemon walls and light oak furniture, and prints of scenes from the north of Tenerife in a bygone era. Floor and storage space are both beyond generous; the en suite bathroom is also nice and big with a double vanity and a powerful shower with lashings of hot water. The balcony is large enough to take a table and two chairs and either has views over the pools and the sea if you have one of the slightly more expensive rooms or over the mountains if you opt for the basic doubles.
One of the nicest things about this hotel is its fabulous gardens and swimming pools. There are two large swimming pools, one connected to sun terraces by a small bridge and the second is the one that forms the roof of the lobby while alongside it is a lovely children’s pool. Go up another level to the top roof for an adults only pool with a separate, nudist area and masses more sun bathing terraces.
Facilities: Too numerous to mention them all, this is a hotel that you’re simply not going to get bored in. You can enjoy the fully equipped gym; play tennis, table tennis, billiards, indoor football, squash and mini golf, all at no extra cost. Rent bikes, enjoy a massage or beauty treatment at the spa; get your hair done or go shopping in the boutique. At night there’s lively entertainment in the lobby and a kiddie’s disco.
Food: We really like the buffet at the Adeje Gran Hotel. They have masses of choices, both Canarian and family favourites, all nicely hot and fresh, great salads, scrumptious cakes and the best selection of cheeses we’ve seen. Breakfasts are an exercise in self restraint with so much choice of hot, cold, healthy and indulgent to choose from. The à la carte La Laja restaurant is one of our favourites in the south and only costs a small supplement for half/full board and all-inclusive guests.
Costa Adeje Gran Hotel is ideal for: families, couples, retired and groups of friends .
