Where The Celebrities Stay on Tenerife

Participants in the ITV fly on the wall travel soap, Travel Guides, may have chosen a three star, all-inclusive hotel in Playa de Las Américas in which to base their holiday guinea pigs, but where do the real celebrities go when they travel to Tenerife?

Ritz-Carlton Abama hotel, Tenerife

Ritz-Carlton Abama
With its stunning headland position that gives widescreen sunsets over La Gomera, its secluded sandy beach, its Michelin-starred restaurants and its fabulous villas which are as private as they are luxurious, it’s no wonder the Ritz-Carlton Abama is first choice for stars like Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Stephen Hawking.

Bahia Del Duque
It may now be a grand dame of Costa Adeje but when the Bahia Del Duque was first constructed, it set the bar for deluxe standards in future hotels and few have managed to clear that bar since. Gorgeous grounds, spectacular swimming pools and some of the sexiest villas on the island make this hotel a magnet for the likes of Shakira, Mariah Carey and Princess Stéphanie of Monaco.

Europe Villa Cortes Hotel, Tenerife

Hotel Europe Villa Cortes
With its gorgeous Mexican hacienda design, penthouse suites, opulent spa and award winning cuisine, it’s little wonder the Europe Villa Cortes in Playa de Las Américas has been attracting stars since it opened its doors in 2002. A particular favourite with J. Lo and ex-hubby Marc Antony.

Hotel Botánico
Famously hosting Michael Jackson on his one and only visit to Tenerife in 1993, and ex US President Bill Clinton who rented an entire floor of the hotel in 2005, the old style luxury and top notch service at Hotel Botánico in Puerto de la Cruz still attracts Canary Islands politicians and the occasional visiting Thai royal to its tranquil location, beautiful gardens and magnificent spa.

Hotel Roca Nivaria, Tenerife

Roca Nivaria Gran Hotel
When the TOWIE cast decamped to Tenerife en masse to swap Essex for sunshine, it was to the Roca Nivaria Gran Hotel in Playa Paraíso that they tottered on their heels. Apart from its splendid, headland position, the girls were ‘well impressed’ with the hotel’s stylish infinity pools, deluxe ocean-view rooms and poolside massages.

Hotel Spa Villalba
The little town of Vilaflor must have got quite a surprise when a shed load of BBC cameramen, make-up artists, wardrobe staff and extras rolled into town. Checking into the fabulous Hotel Spa Villalba, stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman soaked up the hotel’s pine scented location, fine food and excellent, home produced wines in between shoots in Garachico and Teide National Park.

Las Cañadas Parador
In the world of sport, when it comes to training for top events, Teide National Park gets the big thumbs up from the likes of Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome and their preferred base from which to ride is the Las Cañadas Parador. The food is excellent, the ambience is warm and welcoming but above everything else, the location is quite simply, out of this world.

Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey, Tenerife

Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey
No stranger to celebrity hosting, in its 65yr history the Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey in Santa Cruz has hosted Richard Burton and Liz Taylor, Sophia Loren, the King and Queen of Spain and U2. Set to join that illustrious list will, in all probability, be Matt Damon who begins filming the fifth in the iconic Bourne series in the city in September.
