Tressardi Restaurant in the La Paz district of Puerto de la Cruz is one of those places that’s always busy and wandering past its covered outside terrace is a test of willpower as the unmistakeable aroma of fresh pizza hits the nostrils.
La Terrasse had already caught my eye with special opening offers at the Apolo commercial centre in Los Cristianos and faced with ham, tomato, and grated emmental cheese with a beer, wine, or water for €5.40 I couldn’t resist.
In April, with the new growth on the vines in the valley just beginning to flourish, the place was deserted. Our visit began in the outside area, where anxious farmers deliver the grapes, all are thoroughly checked and analysed before being accepted and prices confirmed.
Tasca La Marea is between the main shopping streets of Calle Castillo and Calle de Imelda Sertis where the tram snakes by the Teatro Guimera. Built on the junction of two tight narrow lanes it’s deceptively spacious inside with a split level leading up to an open fronted kitchen where the magic takes place.
Those whose taste buds are drawn to a spicier side of culinary life, will find that a couple of paces beyond Puerto’s Plaza Charco takes you to the quiet delights of Al-Amir.
Stepping inside is like taking another huge step away from the resort areas; a profusion of bright flowers and leafy ferns decorate the path that leads to a delightfully rustic interior, passing quirky wine barrels, gigantic stone lizards and Don Quixote…
Pizza, pasta, and lasagna, three words that conjure up Italian taste sensations, add that fresh home made touch and a Los Cristianos beach a couple of minutes away and it’s a winning combination. That’s what’s on offer at Sabor Italiano one of the newer restaurants in the popular nightlife area of Avenida La Habana above Las Vistas beach.
Even in the busy, commercial areas of Tenerife there is plenty of good quality and good value food to suit all age groups. Chaplin’s Restaurant just off the bustling crossroads of San Eugenio in Playa de Las Americas has no shortage of competition but is very popular and quite distinctive in style.
Beautiful fresh fish and seafood, creatively prepared and presented in a romantic ocean-side setting in the stunning Anaga Mountains…definitely one to try.
