Pick a typically sunny Tenerife day and you can hardly drag yourself away from the beach even if hunger is calling. Chiringo Atlanticus solves that problem. In a prime position at the port end of Las Vistas beach in Los Cristianos it has direct access from the large crescent of sand as well as views of the mountains of Arona.
This is a busy and popular restaurant with a wide range of customers. The bare concrete floor makes it all very informal, many adjourn from sun bathing duties in the minimum of clothing and with bare feet. From early morning it attracts ferry passengers and strollers eager for coffee and a snack right through to pizza, full meals and their delicious paella. Servings are large. After fighting the waves I topped up with a Hawaii pizza that groaned under the load of pineapple and ham.
The terrace wraps around the bar area so from the rear you can look out to Palm Mar or from a prime spot at the front rail you can pick out smaller hill dwellings like Chayofa, and scan westwards to the skyline of Playa de Las Americas and the four and five star hotels of Costa Adeje.
For those special treats the ice cream creations are well worth digging into; the milk shakes are long and cooling and for those lazy sunsets how about a cocktail, here sex on the beach is actually on the beach.
Saturday and Sunday evenings feature live music from duo Soul Fantasy, quite appropriate as this spot was the original setting for the annual Son Latinos beach concerts. There’s a big screen television for big sports events or you can keep an eye on the ferries heading out to La Gomera and beyond but people watching is always popular as Las Vistas ebbs and flows through the day.
