10 of the Top Live Music Bars on Tenerife

Fri, July 27th, 2012 - By Jack Montgomery

We all know that Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje are the cabaret capitals of the island. There’s no arguing with the fact that karaoke and second hand Rod Stewarts and Tina Turners pull in the punters. But what about bars on Tenerife where you can listen to good original music and musicians who play like they’ve sold their soul to the Devil? There are plenty all over the island, if you know where to look.

Here are 10 of my favourite live music bars on Tenerife

Faro Chill Art, Costa Adeje, Tenerife

Faro Chill Art
A super cool bar overlooking Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje, Faro Chill Art has a bit of a split personality going on. It’s a hopelessly romantic venue setting for a sunset cocktail but way after darkness falls and many folks are tucked up in bed, the guitar strings scream and young Canarios descend in their hundreds to see some big names from the Spanish music scene.

The Bull’s Head
The music might not be original, being located at Parque de la Paz in the heart of Playa de las Américas the sounds have to be crowd pleasing, but The Vagabonds are excellent musicians. Subsequently watching them feels like being at a bona fide concert.

Harley’s
This slick American diner in San Eugenio is burger heaven and boasts some of the best heavy rock bands on Tenerife, including Soundchaser and Stone Free, amongst their guitar thumping acts.

Stone Free in Tenerife

Blanco Bar
Even though it’s in the heart of Puerto de la Cruz, Blanco Bar remains ‘hidden’ from a lot of tourists. It’s a beautiful bar with some stonking local bands playing sounds that range from Spanish rock to blues to reggae.

Underground Rock
The place to get heavy in Tenerife’s number one extreme water sport resort, El Médano. A good underground bar to listen to bands with attitude like punky Pornosurf.

Café Quilombo
Even traditional La Orotava has a few bars with avant-garde aspirations and a bouncing local music scene. Café Quilombo features bands and singers performing their own compositions between Thursday and Saturday.

Korsak in Blanco Bar

Café Siete
The true capital for good original sounds on Tenerife is the Metropolitan area of La Laguna and Santa Cruz where there are loads of interesting and lively bars. One such is Café Siete in La Laguna which, apart from providing a platform for experimental music, also has cakes, tea, coffee and Guinness.

Búho Club
Also in La Laguna, the Búho Club has a reputation as a venue that promotes up and coming bands and helps aspiring artists break into Tenerife’s live music scene.

Room 26
A sleek and chic bar in Santa Cruz that is part of the Hotel Taburiente (hence the name)and a popular place for a post work snack combined with a music hit. Live bands tend to play Jazz, Funk and Samba on Thursdays and Fridays.

Bande Aparte
Possibly as much of a theatre experience as visiting a bar, Band Aparte in Santa Cruz is inspired by film noir and cinematic references mould its character. An atmospheric venue to enjoy the best  musicians whilst partaking from a snazzy gin and vodka menu.

What is the name of the amazing talented Rock Band that I’ve seen play in Puerto Colon / Playa Fanabe…. They are called Black Core? And do they have a Facebook Page?
I really like their music. The singer has long dark hair in a pony tail, Spanish looking

i think the band your talking about is blackhole Rock and blues band, they’ve been playing in Harley’s for the last few nights. Great live band to see and the bar is also a bonus

  2. Hi Hazel,

Could it be Sounchaser? They’ve been playing at the In and Out Bar there for years and now Harley’s as well. They’re a cracking rock band and one of the best on the island. Here’s the url of their Facebook page to check out if they’re the right guys.

Yes probably Soundchaser, however, unfortunately the brilliant Soundchaser are no more. The Lead guitarist and singer has created a new band to travel Europe and further his career. If you google soundchaser you can get all the new details. Tenerife is becoming very quiet when it comes to quality music, I only hope the locals can invest in some new talent to bring to the island

    • Thanks for that update Ollie,

Now we’re coming into the festival season, it’s a good time to get to hear who’s who in the local music scene. I’ve heard some really good bands at small music festivals in Santa Cruz, Puerto de la Cruz, La Laguna and even Garachico.

Do you Know of any solo acoustic acts play at Harleys as an agent has booked me for 4 Shows out there in June and one of them is Harleys. I am strong as a solo but it sounds like the crowd here are used to a bigger band sound. Maybe you Could check my website and listen to a live demo and give me your opinion? Any feedback would be great as although what I do is pretty cool some places can be to big. But then again BrianJones Adams can be sell out a stadium with just his acoustic ha!! Heres my website http://www.davela.co.uk cheers

  6. Davela says:
